In order to vigorously promote the industrial upgrading of high-end laser core technology and equipment, cultivate cutting-edge R&D talents to accelerate corporate technological innovation, enhance endogenous development momentum, and create a new ecology of the new energy vehicle manufacturing industry chain. On January 15, 2025, Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technology for Optoelectronics-Wuhan Newlas (hereinafter referred to as the Institute) was officially established.

The optoelectronics industry is currently the most innovative, driving, and permeable industry in the world, and is also the key support for core laser welding technologies. The establishment of the Research Institute is based on a deep insight into this industry trend. The core mission of the institute is to focus on the key challenges of optoelectronic advanced manufacturing technologies and conduct cutting-edge, basic, and applied research. Newlas has mastered the core technologies of high-speed motion control and online quality monitoring. The products developed by the team, such as high-power laser scanning welding systems and LWD penetration detection welding systems, have broken the foreign monopoly, solved the “bottleneck” problem of core components, and ensured industry safety.

The Institute will actively promote the transformation of scientific research results, accelerate the promotion and application of new technologies, new processes and new equipment, and help enterprises improve quality, increase efficiency and reduce costs. Based on the continuous technological research and development and innovation of Newlas, a series of leading scientific research results have been achieved in the field of optoelectronic manufacturing technology, and a number of core technologies and patents with independent intellectual property rights have been formed, which have been encouraged and recognized by the society. It has successively won the honorary titles of National Specialized and New “Little Giant” Enterprise, National Science and Technology Small and Medium Enterprises, Hubei Province Manufacturing Single Champion Enterprise, Wuhan Enterprise Research and Development Center, etc.
